Ep 9 – Space Police

Get ready for another action-packed episode of Operation Anderthon, during which Katherine complains repeatedly about the length and lack of character development in the Gerry Anderson pilot film, Space Police – the bizarre predecessor of Space Precinct.

Space Police was a pilot produced in 1986 by Gerry Anderson and Christopher Burr which would go on to be transformed into the series, Space Precinct, with a number of changes. Space Police: Star Laws follows Lieutenant Brogan, as played by Shane Rimmer, as he attempts to foil an assassination plot along with his alien colleagues at Precinct 44. The Space Police pilot combines live action, the Terrahawks-style of Supermacromation puppet, stop-motion animation, and model effects to create a vivid and alien viewing experience. Space Police does not shy away from using humour as well as great tension to create a show that is suitable for a family audience. But why was the Space Police format transformed so radically to become Space Precinct? Maybe Jack and Katherine have the answers…

Jack’s a massive Gerry Anderson (Thunderbirds, Captain Scarlet, Space: 1999 etc.) fan, and Katherine isn’t. In order to bring about peace in the household, Katherine has agreed to watch the first episode of every Gerry Anderson series in existence.
