This week, Jack and Katherine dive under the sea and join Troy, Phones, and Marina of the World Aquanaut Security Patrol for a voyage of discovery. Stingray is a personal favourite of Jack’s, so what will Katherine have to say about this Supermarionation classic?
Stand by for action with Stingray, the first television series in Britain to be produced entirely in colour. Gerry and Sylvia Anderson’s Supermarionation underwater spectacular follows the exploits of the World Aquanaut Security Patrol’s top vessel, Stingray, and its crew – Captain Troy Tempest, Phones, and Marina the young woman from under the sea who was cursed by the evil Titan and forbidden to speak. Throughout the series, the Stingray crew would meet undersea aliens from a variety of civilisations and quickly discover whether their intentions were good, or threatened the continued existence of the land people. Back at their base, the futuristic city of Marineville, Commander Shore and his daughter Atlanta would oversee the operations. Often the love triangle between Troy, Marina, and Atlanta would create great emotional tension, adding depth to this beloved series. First broadcast in 1964, Stingray was a success across the globe. Jack and Katherine are ready to tell you their thoughts on the series…
Jack’s a massive Gerry Anderson (Thunderbirds, Captain Scarlet, Space: 1999 etc.) fan, and Katherine isn’t. In order to bring about peace in the household, Katherine has agreed to watch the first episode of every Gerry Anderson series in existence.
