Ep 7 – UFO

Katherine has been dreading watching UFO for some reason, but the time has come for her to face her fears and tune in to SHADO’s first battle against the mysterious aliens. Will Jack be able to convince Katherine that the series is a science fiction classic, or will her opinions remain unchanged?

Gerry and Sylvia Anderson’s first live action television series, UFO, was first broadcast in 1970 and starred Ed Bishop as Commander Straker, the head of SHADO, an organisation set up to defend the Earth from alien attack. UFOs are coming to Earth, carrying beings from a dying planet who seek to harvest human organs and transplant them into their own bodies. SHADO is equipped with a base on the moon, an automated satellite, and a fleet of space interceptors, submarines, aircraft, and ground vehicles to tackle the threat of approaching UFOs at a moment’s notice. The SHADO team are an expert group of operatives, pilots, technicians, and medical professionals all dedicated to the cause of combatting the alien menace and attempting to find out more about these mysterious beings from the stars. What did Jack and Katherine make of this cutting edge science fiction series?

Jack’s a massive Gerry Anderson (Thunderbirds, Captain Scarlet, Space: 1999 etc.) fan, and Katherine isn’t. In order to bring about peace in the household, Katherine has agreed to watch the first episode of every Gerry Anderson series in existence.
